Garza Talks Heating Up Again
As I mostly figured last night when I wrote about the report that the Rangers were backing away from the Matt Garza talks due to the Cubs asking for Jurickson Profar, it was mostly smoke and mirrors from a local Chicago reporter, and nothing more.
This morning, however, it looks as if we're getting a bit closer to seeing a trade actualize, as names such as Mike Olt, Neil Ramirez, and C.J. Edwards are what the Rangers are willing to part with. And then there's this from Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports:
Rangers, Cubs haven't gotten to point of exchanging medicals in Garza trade talks.

While it looks like the sides could be inching closer and that the Rangers appear to be the team that will make the deal, we're not quite there yet. Then again, we've seen situations before in which the Rangers were reported to be close to a deal and at the last minute, things took a 180 and another team jumped in.
I'm a little more confident that this deal will go through, and while I'm still a bit uneasy about the potential outlay of talent from the Rangers, I understand that this is part of the reason a team builds a strong and deep farm system.
More as details emerge.
ESPN Chicago is reporting that Matt Garza's agent has been told by the Cubs that he will be traded to build for the future.
